NUKU’ALOFA-November 28: 9am (R2R Media): A group of youths – Tonga’s future leaders – have taken it upon themselves to help clean up the environment around them and help keep Tonga green.

The youths, who now work under the banner of ‘Green Tonga’, have been organised by the Tonga National Youth Council here in Nuku’alofa.

Made up of youths from around the Kingdom, the group have their partners all over the main islands of Tonga – Tongatapu, Vava’u, Ha’apai and ‘Eua.

Their program started last Saturday and here on Tongatapu the group members helped cleaned up rubbish and waste along the Popua side of the Fanga’uta Lagoon.

When the R2R Media team visited the group last Saturday they had collected rubbish and debris around the old OLD Tonga site in Popua.

The R2R project assisted them by providing gloves for them to wear and making available waste bags that they could use to collect the waste and rubbish in.

Working with the Waste Authority, collected waste and rubbish were then transported to Tupuhia Landfills where these were disposed off.

The groups will continue with this project over the next weeks and months as part of their contribution towards keeping Tonga green and clean.
