NUKU’ALOFA-February 7: 3.17pm (R2R Media): The Ministry of Meteorology, Information, Energy, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change and Communications (MEIDECC) hosted a stakeholders meeting earlier today with SPREP/POLYECO, the contractor engaged to remove and replace Asbestos-Contaminated Construction Material (ACM) in selected sites in Tonga, at the Department of Environment Conference Room here in Nuku’alofa.

The meeting was chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of MEIDECC, Mr Paula Ma’u, with participants from the Ministry of Health and Waste Authority Ltd.
The discussions included the work scope, modification to intervention sites and details and plan of operation.
Work is proposed to commence on Monday, February 13.
According to Mr Ma’u, the asbestos removal and replacement is funded by the European Union through SPREP and coordinated by the MEIDECC and other stakeholders.
