Primary schools receive plant seedlings

NUKU’ALOFA-March 16: 2.24pm (R2R Media): Six primary schools in the greater Nuku’alofa area today received plant seedlings from the Tonga Ridge To Reef project, under the Department of Environment.

Working with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Forestry, the project’s Technical Officer Petelo Otoota Tooa was on hand to witness the handing over of 25 plant seedlings each at the different schools.

Education Officer Alifeleti Fonua facilitated the arrangement with the primary schools involved, which were the Government Primary Schools in Popua, Ma’ufanga, Fasi, Ngeleia, Fanga ‘o Pilolevu and Havelu.

Mr Fonua said the seedlings will be planted by the different schools, with the hope that they will also look after the seedlings so they can grow into trees.

On hand to receive the plant seedlings were the different school headteachers and students.

The different headteachers on hand yesterday and their reps were Ms Losaline Ta’ufo’ou of Popua, Ms ‘Asinito Faka’osi of Ma’ufanga, Ms Valeti Teumohenga of Fasi, Ms Lavinia Uili of Ngeleia, Ms Veiongo Kalaleti of Fanga and Ms Kalolaine Niukapu of Havelu.

Mr Tooa said more plant seedlings will be distributed to other schools around the Fanga’uta Lagoon Catchment area over the next week.
