Environment team saddened by Sam’s passing

Nuku’alofa – April 25, 2019: 3.25pm (Enviro News): The Director of Environment, Mrs Lupe Matoto this afternoon expressed shock and sadness after hearing of the sudden loss of Environment advocate and Ocean champion Sam Tatafu earlier today.

The late Sam Tatafu worked with the Department as a partner in marine activities.

His body was recovered earlier today after a sea search around the ‘Eua and Tongatapu waters.

This was after he and a staff were reported missing at sea when they did not arrive in Nuku’alofa as scheduled yesterday.

They had left ‘Eua at around 5.30am and were scheduled to arrive in the capital later yesterday.

Mrs Matoto said Sam’s passing is a great loss to the department since he had helped the department immensely as a partner.

The Director and the Staff of the Environment Department would like to extend their utmost condolences to Sam’s wife, children and family and pray that peace and comfort be theirs at this difficult time.
