Nuku’alofa – March 18, 2021: 10.20am (Enviro News): The World Bank funded waste survey is now being carried out here on Tongatapu this week.

Teams from the Environment Department and the Waste Authority here on Nuku’alofa had started on this important survey last week, with plans to complete that by this weekend.

The survey involves the collection of waste from identified locations around Tongatapu and the sorting/classification of all waste by the team members.

This will help in identifying the different waste classes in Tonga and the quantity of each classes present here.

Data will help in forming plans on how best waste can be disposed off.

Director of Environment Atelaite Lupe Matoto and Chief Enviromentalist Mafileo Masi are leading the department’s team involved in the survey.
